Simnet Pedals: Setup, Calibration and Troubleshooting

Most Simnet issues come down to calibration, firmware or the wrong cable, and the guides below solve the large majority of them. Work through the relevant section first.

If you are still stuck, or you think the product is faulty, contact us at [email protected] or call or text 1-888-411-APEX. We are an authorized Simnet dealer, so we handle troubleshooting and any warranty claim directly with Simnet on your behalf. Please get in touch before sending anything back.

Before you start: Simnet pedals must be calibrated on a Windows PC, even if you only ever use them on a console. Calibration is saved to the pedals' internal memory, so this is a one-time step on PC before console use.

1. Pedal Calibration Guide

Simnet SP Pro pedals require calibration via a Windows PC using the dedicated Simnet software to function correctly on both PC and consoles. The process involves installing the software, connecting via USB, and adjusting gain, offset and dead zones for the load cell, particularly to set maximum braking pressure.

a. Initial Setup

  • Connect to PC: Plug your Simnet control box into your PC via USB. Even if you use them on a console, you must calibrate on a PC first to save the settings to the pedals' internal memory.
  • Launch Software: Open the Simnet SimConnect Manager application, making sure you are using the latest version.

b. Throttle and Clutch Calibration

These pedals rely on Gain and Offset sliders to set the range:

  • Set the Minimum: With the pedal at rest, not pressed, adjust the Offset until the input bar reads exactly 0%.
  • Set the Maximum: Fully depress the pedal to its physical stop. Adjust the Gain slider until the input bar reaches 100%.

c. Brake (Load Cell) Calibration

Because the brake measures pressure rather than distance, it requires specific tuning:

  • Remove Mechanical Play: Tighten the back screw on the brake spring rod until there is no loose wobble in the small black preload spring.
  • Set 100% Force: Press the brake pedal with the maximum amount of force you want to represent full braking in game.
  • Adjust Gain: While holding that pressure, adjust the Gain, or use the Calibration Helper, until the bar hits 100%.
  • Check Resting State: Ensure the bar returns to 0% when you release the pedal. If it stays slightly green, increase the Offset (deadzone) slightly.

d. Finalizing

  • Save to Hardware: Click Save or Apply within the manager. This writes the calibration directly to the control box so it remembers the settings even when unplugged.
  • In-Game Test: Open your simulator, for example iRacing or ACC, and verify that the bars in the game's Controls menu match your physical foot movements.

2. Haptic Calibration Guide

  • Update Firmware: Ensure your pedals are on the latest firmware via the Simnet SimConnect Manager.
  • Hardware Setup: Connect the motors to your pedals and plug the control box into your PC via USB. Ensure the external power adapter is plugged in, as USB power alone will not drive the haptics.
  • Console Users: For PS5 and Xbox, connect the pedals to a Fanatec wheelbase via RJ12, but the haptic control box must still be connected to a PC to process telemetry data.

a. Calibration in SimConnect Manager

The SimConnect Manager is used for the initial hardware handshake:

  • Set Ranges: Calibrate the minimum (deadzone) and maximum travel for each pedal. Press the pedal to about 80 to 90% of its physical limit during calibration to ensure you can reach 100% easily in game.
  • Motor Selection: Specify whether you are using Linear or Rumble motors.
  • Tip: Linear motors are usually best for the brake to simulate ABS and threshold braking accurately.

b. Setting Up Haptics in SimHub (Recommended)

SimHub offers the most control over telemetry-based effects:

  • Add Device: Go to Devices > Add New Device and select Simnet.
  • Activate Motors: Navigate to ShakeIt Motors > Motors Output and ensure the Simnet motors are enabled.
  • Configure Effects: Assign specific triggers in the Effects Profile tab. For the brake, use ABS, Wheel Lock and Road Rumble. For the throttle, use Traction Control, Wheel Slip and Engine RPM.
  • Fine-Tuning: Adjust Frequency (vibration speed) and Gain (strength). If the feedback feels muddy, lower the frequency. If it is too weak, increase the gain.

c. Troubleshooting

  • No Vibration: Double-check that the power supply is connected to the control box.
  • Weak Feedback: Check whether the Master Gain in SimHub or SimConnect is turned down.
  • In-Game Mismatch: If the pedal hits 100% too early, re-run the calibration in your specific sim's controller settings menu.

3. Fanatec Wheelbase Guide

Using a Fanatec wheelbase and struggling to calibrate or connect your pedals?

a. Check you have the correct cable

The Fanatec RJ12 cable has a specific pin-out configuration and a standard RJ12 cable will not work. You can order the correct one here: Simnet RJ12 Cable for Fanatec Wheelbase

b. Your pedals calibrate in SimConnect Manager but are not working in game

Once calibration is done, follow these steps in order:

  • Unplug the pedals from the computer
  • Unplug the RJ12 cable of the pedals from the wheelbase, and turn the wheelbase and PS5 off if they are on
  • Turn the wheelbase on, in PS mode
  • Plug the RJ12 cable of the pedals into the wheelbase, but only once the wheelbase has fully started
  • Press the pedals once or twice
  • Start the PS5 and the game
  • Go into the in-game settings and calibrate the pedals
